Thame Swimming Club’s Annual Club Championships are held in November each year generally in 3 stages.
Long distance events (1500m & 800m) and middle distance events (400m) held on consecutive Sunday evenings followed by the main Club Champs for all other events (50m, 100m & 200m) held the following Sunday from midday onwards.
These Championships are open to all members of the club regardless of how long they have been swimming and what group they are in and every member is encouraged to participate.
Club Champs is a great introduction to competitive swimming and an opportunity for swimmers to race against their training buddies. All three days of the competition are run as Licenced Level 4 meets so that the times will count for the Oxfordshire & North Buckinghamshire County Championships early the following year.
The coaching team will be present so there are always familiar faces to help and encourage. Coaches can advise swimmers on which races to enter appropriate to their level. Generally Group 1 Swimmers are encouraged to enter all the 50m events and the 100m IM, Group 2 swimmers also add the 100m events and Group 3 & 4 swimmers are asked to try as many races as they can. The Club Captains will also be there to help the younger swimmers for whom it may be their first competition.
Club Champs is a great opportunity for all swimmers to enter as many events as they like (no one needs an eligible time to enter) so that they can get official times for all strokes and distances.
Awards are made for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each event for each age group – 9 & under, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 & over. Awards are presented at the Club Presentation Night in January.
The Club Champs has a unique fun team atmosphere where all swimmers achievements are celebrated, it is a truly fun event with a serious competitive edge.
