Thame Swimming Club

Trophies & Awards

Each year Thame Swimming Club awards a number of trophies and awards to exceptional swimmers. The two Club trophies are awarded to the most improved swimmer and to the most competitive swimmer in the club. A third trophy is awarded by the UCARE charity to the most committed swimmer. Further awards are made in memory of coach Tom Birmingham, in memory of swimmer Will Finch and also awarded by the Club coaches.

Simon Burnett Competition Trophy
This trophy is awarded to the most competitive swimmer in the Club. The most competitive swimmer is calculated using the FINA points that are awarded to swimmers for success at licenced galas. FINA points are awarded to those swimmers who get placed in the top 8 for each event in their age group. The trophy is awarded annually at the Club Presentation Evening to the most successful competitor in the Club.

Rob Brooks Development Trophy for The Most Improved Swimmer
The trophy was established to recognise the fantastic support the club receives from Rob Brooks, Director of Sport at Lord Williams’s School. This is awarded to the swimmer whose swimming times improve the most during the year and is awarded annually at the Club Presentation Evening. The award is calculated by taking each swimmer’s time at the start of the year and at the end of December for all the 50m and 100m events, including the 100 IM.

Tom Birmingham Skins awards
This award is dedicated to the memory of Tom Birmingham a Thame Swimming Club coach who sadly died in 2014. This event is run at the Thame Swimming Club annual Club Championships. The fastest 5 girls and the 5 fastest boys in the 200IM event get selected to enter this knockout competition of races over 50m. Strokes are randomly selected for each race and the last swimmer to complete the head to head race is eliminated. The races continue until just one winner remains.

Will Finch Breaststroke Canon Relay
This event is held in memory of Will Finch a swimmer with Thame Swimming Club who sadly died in 2015. Will’s favourite stroke was breaststroke and this fun event pitches five teams of 10 swimmers, pre-selected from all training groups. Each squad represents one country in which Will lived at various stages of his life, notably GB, Ireland, Switzerland, Italy and USA. Each team is pitched against each other in a breaststroke canon-style relay from youngest to oldest.

Coaches Awards
Coaches awards are also awarded annually to a boy and a girl in each of the four main training groups based on attendance, commitment, improvement and outstanding effort during the year.
