Masters

Thame Swimming Club has set up a Masters training squad. There has been significant interest in a Master squad from the community and we would like to thank you all for your interest and suggestions. We have been working with the NEXUS team at Thame Leisure Centre to extend our pool usage and create sufficient space for a Masters session.

The Masters have two training session options:

Day

AM

PM

Tuesday

6-7:30am

Sunday

8-9:30pm

The training is aimed at Masters (25 and over) and Seniors (18-25) who want to train for competitive swimming, fitness or to improve their performance in the swimming section of a triathlon. You can select to swim in one or the other session but must specify on joining whether you are a Monday or a Sunday swimmer. You can also select to swim in both sessions.

The club currently runs a quarterly billing process where swimmers pay by cheque. We are in the process of moving to monthly standing orders and hope to bring this in by the start of the 4th calendar quarter of 2010 (October). Unfortunately, since we have to maintain the pool time, we cannot stop charges for swimmers who want to go on holiday or can’t swim. However, we do have a process to reduce fees when swimmers are ill or injured to hold their place open until they return to training.

The Masters fees are as follows:

  • Club Membership Fee: £48/year
  • ASA Membership Fees: £22.50/year for a CAT2 Competitive Member
  • ASA Membership Fees: £6.90/year for a CAT1 Non - Competitive Member
  • ASA Regional Fees - £2.75/year
  • Masters Training Fee – 1 session/week = £25/month
  • Masters Training Fee – 2 sessions/week = £40/month

WHAT KIT DO MASTERS SWIMMERS NEED?

Masters swimmers will need a non transparent one-piece swimming costume/trunks and goggles (spares are a good idea).

A Thame Swimming Club Hat will be needed and a Thame Swimming Club shirt for competitions if you are a CAT2 Competitive member and will be attending ASA Maters competitions. These can be found on the website at http://www.thameswimmingclub.co.uk/clubkit.html . If you are training for fitness or triathlons then a Thame SC Hat would be nice but not essential. Hat orders have a minimum order volume so they can take some time as the orders build up to the minimum volume. In addition, hats can get damaged so ordering a spare is recommended.

The swimmers will also need basic training equipment:

  • Kick Board
  • Pull-Buoy
  • Fins – please ask your coach whether long or short fins should be used.
  • Hand Paddles
  • Wet Bag
  • Drinks Bottle

Swimmers will not be allowed to swim if they do not have a drink with them. This is due to the dehydrating effects of training. The wet bag allows you to carry the kit to poolside and, as the name implies, is a bag that can get wet and carry wet kit.

Please NAME all your kit as it will be removed from the wet bag and placed poolside with all the other swimmers kit during training – things do get muddled.

Other equipment will required as the swimmers progress through the groups, such as training snorkels, your coach will advise when this equipment is necessary.
